List of products by brand Glock

Glock is an Austrian firearms manufacturer that revolutionized the handgun market in the 1980s with its line of polymer-framed, striker-fired pistols. Its flagship model, the Glock 17, introduced the world to the "Safe Action" System and set the global standard for reliability, simplicity, and high-capacity. Glock pistols are the dominant sidearm for law enforcement agencies worldwide and are exceptionally popular in the civilian market.

Glock Ges.m.b.H. was founded by engineer Gaston Glock in 1963. The company originally had no experience with firearms, manufacturing products like curtain rods and military field knives. In the early 1980s, the Austrian military sought a new sidearm, and Glock, applying his expertise in advanced polymers, designed a revolutionary new pistol.

The resulting Glock 17 (named for being the 17th patent) was a radical departure from the steel-framed, hammer-fired pistols of the day. Its key innovations were:

  • Polymer Frame: The frame was made from a durable, lightweight polymer, which was resistant to corrosion and reduced the overall weight significantly.

  • "Safe Action" System: This striker-fired system replaced a traditional external hammer and manual safety. It features three independent internal safeties (trigger, firing pin, and drop safety) that are disengaged sequentially as the trigger is pulled and re-engage when it's released. This makes the pistol simple to operate under stress: there is no external safety to disengage, and the trigger pull is consistent for every shot.

  • Reliability & Simplicity: The pistol had a remarkably low number of parts (around 34), making it incredibly reliable, easy to maintain, and cost-effective to manufacture.

Despite initial skepticism about a "plastic gun," its incredible reliability and high-capacity magazine (17 rounds) led to its adoption by the Austrian military in 1982. It quickly entered the U.S. market, where it aggressively and successfully targeted law enforcement agencies, eventually equipping over 65% of them. Today, the Glock platform has expanded into a vast range of calibers and sizes (from the subcompact Glock 43 to the full-size Glock 21) and remains the benchmark by which all other modern service pistols are measured.
